If my life could be a song, it'd be Plumb's Real, which starts off with "Look at me, twenty-three, beautiful sight to see tonight." Which is, incidentally, my age last year. But the lyrics still apply. Do I get life half the time? I don't. I'm just struggling to get by. In the meantime, I write, I read, I observe. This journal is what it feels like.
Went to watch Shrek 2 with the siblings yesterday. Puss was just so adorable. Before leaving, Bry made a comment that sounded like, "Meron namang tao sa bahay, diba?" It made me wonder what the heck he was talking about until he added that we were watching Shrek 1 on the day that our house was broken into and robbed.
That bad memory aside, we had fun. I was able to snag this pic from one of my mates (hey there, Cyndie!). I hope she doesn't mind (hehe)
Fellowship Dinner-thing On stuff prior to this, I went with a couple of people from the Fellowship for dinner last Saturday night. In attendance were Teena (gimmick guru!), Pao, Jem, Reese, Lot and me. Then Paul came over (Teena's bud, also posted in FF for some time). Had dinner at Krokodile Grille (I wonder if it's related to Congro Grill-? Lots of safari-related restaurants around..), then headed to Absinth for drinks. Xan was supposed to be in Timezone but when we when there he was nowhere to be found. I swear, that guy's avoiding us.
ANYway, we went to Absinth after dinner. Harangued Jem to get something alcoholic. Was forced (by myself) to get a drink (Currant), so she'd be getting one herself. On me ;) Got her a Bailey's milkshake, and she told us she'd be telling on us with May. May, I swear! She didn't get drunk! She didn't! Snagged all the cherries I could.. then Teena, Pao and Paul wanted to go to Malate for Bed Bar. Lot, Jem and I had to stay behind because Dad was picking us up from there. Reese already went ahead. Got a Rhumba frap from Starbucks, then went to 6750 to be picked up.
I feel like Buffalo Wings. Will get one later at McDo. Payday yesterday! Yay me! Memorial Day in the US, so we didn't have work. 3-day workweek! Woo!
Garth Nix, Lirael, Sabriel and Abhorsen Andy finished reading Lirael, and was interested in reading Abhorsen. I told her, next week. Lent the book to Tina right after (another bookworm, teenager, kindred spirit) Mass.. Bry just finished reading Sabriel and didn't want to read Abhorsen without having read Lirael. Such a commotion. :) But I'm glad that people like the books. Pao asked about it, and Reese said her friend read it in the past. It really is a nice book, so get off your butts and go get a copy.
I dunno. I guess I feel.. very older-sisterly to some of the girls in the choir. Definitely some younger girls in the neighborhood. It's weird. Sunday, I gave Bea a belated birthday present: a black blouse with her name on it in elvish. Her eyes bugged out when she opened it. She asked for it last week, I guess not really thinking I'd go through with it, and I gave it last Sunday. Tina's is coming up, and I have a spare blouse. I guess it's easy for me-? I don't know how to explain it. I miss Mags though, this seven year old girl in our neighborhood. Very cheerful and open, but her family had to move away to the province for school (her dad's postgrad).
That's it. Fully Booked is now my new favorite bookstore. Shuck National. Screw PowerBooks. I'm going to Fully Booked for my literary needs. I just finished Lirael by Garth Nix, this Sunday, and I wanted to buy the sequel, Abhorsen as soon as I could. Went to Glorietta this morning with Bryan to buy Abhorsen (which we found at Bibliarch), then took a cab to the PowerPlant to buy Sabriel (which was priced at an incredibly low P288. They must've had it in inventory so long that the price didn't go up. Thank goodness for me). Lol. I don't recall having been this obsessed by a book series in a while.
Also bought Nora Roberts' Key Of Knowledge from her new Key series. Yay, me. Three books today: Sabriel, Abhorsen, Key of Knowledge. This ought to keep me happy for the next seven days till payday. ;)
Honestly, I've been such a bookwhore the past two weeks. Last weekend I blew a thousand plus bucks on books:
Mary, Queen of Scots and the Murder of Lord Darnley by Alison Weir (I remember her from reading her Elizabeth I book. Good stuff, that girl)
101 Finishing Touches for home decorating ideas
The Solitaire Mystery by Jostein Gardner of Sophie's World fame.
Timeline by Michael Crichton (because, despite her protests, Chi did more likely lose the hardbound, Michael Crichton-autographed one we had)
Myst: The book of Ti'ana from the makers of Myst the computer game.
366 Days with the Lord from St Paul's publishing. Trying to make good with my Easter resolution to be more familiar with the New Testament.
A lot of interests, eh? I'm planning to buy something math-science related next time. Something along the lines of a commentary on quantum mechanics and the history of science. Maybe. I remember seeing a couple of interesting books at Ink and Stone from the Podium.
AND I have yet to finish The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. Thing is, I don't think I can really read the thing straight through, or else I'd be depressed, know what I mean? In line with that, I read an interesting article on Anne Frank recently. Must revisit our (house) library to reread the girl. And, if anyone here in the PI has access to Greg Iles' books, please give me a holler. I finished his Black Cross and it's fucking amazing. I can't believe he isn't in the same league as Crichton or Grisham in the paperback arena. Really. He ought to have the same amount of fame as Dan Brown, dammit.
Speaking of bookstores, I bought my new favorite earrings from them as well. A bookstore, mind you. Sooner or later everything I own, use, and wear will be bought from a bookstore; I'm there all the time. It's a pair of silver stud earrings in the shape of daggers. Nice. Very nice.
Shopped with my brother last week for his schoolbag (which I promised), and his school stuff (notebooks, pens, paper, socks, etc). Got Chi some lipbalm from BodyShop (smells like strawberry. Good enough to eat) and BodyButter in olive for Mom (hot damn that thing smells fantastic). We wanted to buy some good walking shorts for Dad, but we didn't have enough time and I had to go home to get some sleep. Will do that maybe tomorrow.
Vali called on my cellphone (as Lammy wasn't answering hers), during her lunchbreak as I was checking out a shirt for Bry at Bench. Talked about some plans.. she may have money to use (if she save wisely lol) to come over to the Philippines later in the year, or next year. I told her to save enough to get a plane ticket, and I'll take care of the rest. Vali, you better get your butt over here and I'll show you places, I swear. I'll use up all my leave credits once you get here.
Bought my brother a shirt. The upside of being an older sister with a job is that you get to dress your kid brother in clothes you like him to wear. He looks nice, if I do say so myself. Got me a scented hand gel, and a lavender-mint cologne. Went to the grocery to buy some stuff (candy, hot chocolate and coffee packets) for my agents. This week's going to be a long haul, with overtimes and frayed nerves fully expected.
Back to books. I love my new books. Am going to cover them up with plastic once I'm done with this entry.

Look at it and die. ;)
Oh, pleease link me to the Elflady place! I wanna see Eric Bana's Orli impersonation!
And pics from the Filipino Fellowship's Troy viewing:
Me and Meg post-Troy at Starbucks
The rest are pics during the Troy thing. ;)
Thanks to Gill, who took it. And the weird thing on my chin is the lighting, not drool.
Pao, me and May at Sbarro's
Group piic! (Biggest gathering yet-?)
Looking at the interviews at the exhibit. Teena in pink, Lot, me (light blue, sort of obscured) then Lindsay
Monday I start my first day as supervisor. I've left the reins to Che, who will lead QA starting Monday. I've let her facilitate all the calibrations this week and brought her along to QA Lead meetings, so that the others will get used to her. She will run the reports starting next week, and I'll clean up the reports for this week.
Sort of anticipating and at the same time dreading next week.
And wait. PUNZIE!! Come back here and make us a locked message! What the hell is up with your message, girlie? You can't leave me hanging with a cliffhanger like that! I will hound you!
A big shoutout for Kimble, who is celebrating her birthday on the 8th. Got that info from the Arrows Birthday thread. (If you're an Arrow, you understand what I mean). Kimble-babe, I hope you have fun. Not necessarily less drama (or else, what's left for us to enjoy, right? Lol), but definitely less of the hassle.
And for everyone who knows, May's is coming up on the 12th. If you've read Dreams and you loved the story, you owe my girl a birthday greeting come the 12th. *glares*
Watched the lunar eclipse from work two days ago. Wanted to post info about it before, but I was always too tired from work to post it. Beautiful, beautiful coppery color. And what's really nice is that it was a big fat moon. Downside of it was that it was cloudy, and I was at work. Ergo, no time to really enjoy it. We just went down for a 15 minute break, then headed up.
Getting myself heavily into Colleen McCullough's Caesar and Jostein Gaardner's A Solitaire Mystery. Not being in school, I can't stand not knowing something new. Which means I always have the itch to buy and read something new every payday. Not bad, considering that I'm reading.
Need to write more. OT is killing my writing time. Must. Not. Go. To. Work. This. Saturday. I will definitely set it aside for writing stuff. May's already got herself a headstart on the wedding thing, so I have to get my ass off the couch and start writing again. Gah.
