:: Tears of the Moon ::

If my life could be a song, it'd be Plumb's Real, which starts off with "Look at me, twenty-three, beautiful sight to see tonight." Which is, incidentally, my age last year. But the lyrics still apply. Do I get life half the time? I don't. I'm just struggling to get by. In the meantime, I write, I read, I observe. This journal is what it feels like.

Juan!

Went to the Battle of the Bands thing for CCAP to support our band, Juan. As the dj said, our group was incendiary: every mention of our company's name and/or the name of our band, and we simply freak out and scream. Not just freaking out, but standing up, freaking out and screaming. We also came prepared: we wore the same shirts (in uniform), bought our own banner, and had little flaglet things, as well as confetti poppers. We were a very determined fan group. We were so loud that we were the first group that got the Marshalls to stand in front of the stage to prevent 'stampeding' (see this article from the Inquirer) to the stage (as if).

End of it? We didn't win. That's alright, because the one big thing we learned from it is it got people together in a way they didn't before: teams were loyal to their programs, but hardly identified with the company, you know? I hope we have more activities like these that get people going, you know?

Other bands!
Sugarfree
Got to see Sugarfree perform. And since Raimund Marasigan was part of the judging panel, he came up onstage to sing backup for Sugarfree's rendition of the Eraserheads song, Alapaap (the version I like, btw). They simply ROcKED. And I was totally blown away: Raimund Marasigan singing backup for a rendition of a song by the legendary EHeads. Langford was giving me funny looks, and I had to say, "They're like our local Beatles."

Mojofly
Finally got to see them perform live! I agree that their new girl gives a better performance and has better showmanship than Kitchie Nadal. She's more comfortable doing solo, and this new girl looks good with a group.

Bamboo was scheduled to come, but they cancelled. Riight. After having committed for weeks, they pulled out because our sponsor wasn't their sponsor. They've already come to the venue, ready to play in a few minutes, but they bleeding pulled out because of sponsorship issues. Cute. Very cute.

Parokya Ni Edgar instead, committed to have a longer set list because of the vacuum. Very nice of them, I think. And their playlist consisted of asking people what they wanted to hear. One thing I have to say about PnE: they have massive stage presence and rapport with the audience. What I like about them is that they always play tongue-in-cheek: even making a parody of Hale's The Day You Said Goodbye (gag me with a spoon now, please. But they were insanely funny). They also sang a bit of Rivermaya's Elesi. Chito climbed up the huge speakers, running back and forth and plunging into the crowd to get in deeper with the audience.

Also the first time I got to see Rivermaya perform. Thing about Rivermaya this time is that the appreciation's more on the actual music (and the memory it evokes) than the performance. At this point, Rivermaya has amassed a huge amount of popular songs, many of them hits for my generation (high school, college). So, 214, Elesi, are songs that I'd love to hear again and again. And they have songs that have incredibly good lyrics Awit ng Kabataan, Liwanag sa Dilim, Posible. They ended their set with Liwanag sa Dilim, which is an absolute favorite for me, so it was a great way to end the evening.

I Won a Raffle!
For once in my memory, I won a raffle! I got a Globe prepaid cellphone kit. Thing is, everyone at home uses Smart, so I really don't have any use for the phone. I'll probably raffle it off to the team. So, I got a Motorola monochromatic screen.
