If my life could be a song, it'd be Plumb's Real, which starts off with "Look at me, twenty-three, beautiful sight to see tonight." Which is, incidentally, my age last year. But the lyrics still apply. Do I get life half the time? I don't. I'm just struggling to get by. In the meantime, I write, I read, I observe. This journal is what it feels like.
How can you tell a true friend? Someone who doesn't just stand by you in happy times to cheer you on. It's also someone who kicks your ass when they know you're making a fool of yourself. It's someone who holds a mirror in front of you to tell you what an idiot you are.
I love you, May. Thanks. :)
Weather Hey, check out the Weather Website to see how BAD the weather is over here. The storm is about the size of my country and we're right at the center of it. School's been cancelled for two days for all levels, as well as government offices. I, in the meantime, have to go to work early to avoid traffic and/or flood problems. I brought along shower essentials and a change of clothing to prepare myself for it. We might not be able to go back home tomorrow. Since I work nights and my job is technically servicing clients in the US, there's no such thing as an OFF day for me today. What we do instead is to advise our people to come to work early because, guess what, you can't explain to your callers that it's Super Typhoon in the Philippines.
Speaking of the typhoon, if you have a moment, folks, could you just send a little prayer or happy thought to my friend Z, who's in the province? She came here a few months ago with her mom and brother, and went back. Now she's back here with her mom helping out for business, but it's over there in the Visayas (middle of the country) and the provinces to boot, that the entire first floor of their home (I would guess their ancestral home) is already flooded and they're living on the second floor until the storm blows over. I hope nothing bad happens to her.
The Sopranos Watched Season 4 of The Sopranos. My sister's been buying the DVD since season 1 and for some reason I never really got the hang of the story (meaning I didn't follow it the way I would, say, Alias). My brother and sister did though. But since I was bored and I didn't get to come to work yesterday (sinusitis-type headache) I went through the first five episodes. I knew enough about the timeline and such to be able to follow, but not the intricacies of the series.
What constantly surprises me about the series (and by extension, Sex and the City) is it's very casual and nonchalant exhibition of sex and violence. You see the character picking up a lead pipe and beating someone to a pulp with it - the pipe actually connects with the person's head, or shoulders or back. And the sex.. Well, what can I say about the sex? It's almost clinical in their portrayal of it: skin and humping. None of the usual sheet-covering-the-strategic-body-parts that come with other tv shows. But then again, this is HBO we're talking about. Cable. Technically they can show anything they want within reason. Look at Sex and the City. All that nudity. :) And all that blood and dismemberment with Band of Brothers
Work If the rain keeps up, we might have to stay here for the night (technically, 'night' for my body clock is day for the rest of the Philippines). All the sups brought along a day's worth of change of clothes just in case. We might have to check in somewhere or bunk in the sleeping quarters. Lol. Impromptu slumber party.
LOL!Got this from dinny-baby. ;) Thanks mah man! Incidentally, I was thinking about Sex and the City and which character I would've been. I was thinking maybe Cynthia Nixon's character. Since I wasn't a big fan of the series (I watched three or four episodes to get to know what the buzz was about. After three or four, the stories became repetitive and boring - and constantly about sex), I completely forgot what her character's name was.. I think Miranda-? And look, Kim Catrall with the carrot distinction! How apt!
AIDS Awareness Day
Remembering the ones who've gone, and the ones who are affected. I'm partly relieved that I don't know anyone who's affected by it, but then at the same time I grieve for those who are, and have loved ones who are.
